Yoga:

Rachel Brooker has been studying yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2004. She has studied primarily Anusara Yoga and is in the process of certification as an Anusara-inspired teacher. She also founded Anima Dance, a dance theater company based in Berlin, Germany. For more information, contact Rachel or join the mailing list.


Recent Works:
Postcards from Berlin, a series of dance films with Berlin schoolchildren. Under the direction of Jo Parkes (www.mobiledance.org), Brooker was one of three choreographers chosen to create site-specific dance films with children from marginal schools in Berlin, each film focusing on a place in Berlin, its history, and what it means to the students involved. Premiered May 15, 2009 in Kino Arsenal, Berlin, and simultaneously on the Berliner Fenster in subways across Berlin, running until May 22.

Oh, Beautiful: My Patriot Act, a look at a kaleidoscope of characteristics of the US through the eyes of an expatriate. Performed in a lecture-demonstration, April 20, 2009 Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA; January 22-25, 2009, at Brotfabrik, Berlin; at the Democrats Abroad Election Night Party at the Babylon Theater, Berlin, November 4-5, 2008; the studiobühne, Freie Universität Berlin, August 2007; Das Pumpwerk, Berlin, June 2007; Mime Centrum, Berlin, June 2007.

Invitation, an interactive dance installation. Founded and directed Anima Dance, a dance theater company based in Durham, NC from 2000 to 2005 and in Berlin, Germany from 2006 to the present. Productions to date include 11 evenings of original choreography and two films. Work has been extensively funded by public and private donors.
